What this structure costs on your numbers
Take a plan of $50 a month: $600 in the first 12 months, at a 70% gross margin. Keeping half of the gross profit leaves a reward budget of $210 for each referred customer. These are example figures, not Proton's.
With Proton's structure, the rewards for one referred customer cost $40. For 100 referred customers, if 50% would not have bought anyway, the program returns $17,000 of net contribution (425% ROI). It breaks even when 9.5% of referred customers are new because of it.
